Vayda’s Crossbow Doe

My sister, Vayda, is 9 years old and she just got her special Youth Hunting License a few days ago. Because I had a soccer game after school, Vayda got to go deer hunting with our Mentor, our Grandfather. We call him, “Pups”.

They were in our tent blind that she and Pups set up a few weeks ago. It’s at the end of our field by the creek and some crab apple trees.

They also put a trail camera on a nearby tree and they got some nice shots of deer at this spot.

After getting their packs, cameras, tripods, chairs and crossbow all set up in the blind, Vayda settled down to look for deer. She loved using my Riton 10×40 binoculars. She was amazed at how much better she could see everything with the Riton Optics.

After scanning the woods with her binoculars for about 15 minutes, Vayda spotted 3 deer coming through the thick marsh along the creek. She was so excited; then Pups loaded an arrow on her bow.

Vayda stood up and aimed the crossbow through the front window. A moment later the big doe stepped out into our field. She asked “Pups” should I shoot? He answered, “Yes, now!”

They heard the arrow hit its mark They had to track the deer right past our trail camera. The doe ran up stream and crossed the creek a few times.

It’s really a thick tangle of vines, brush and briars, plus a wet swampy area. As darkness fell, they found a good blood trail. When Pups found the deer, Vayda was on the other side of the creek . He waded across to get her. Vayda jumped on his back and he waded across the stream to get her to see her big doe. The two hunters were both wet and covered with swamp mud when the pictures were taken.

Pups also got the whole event on video, so stay in touch and you’ll see Vayda’s hunt in my next “Riton Review” video.   Vayda was thrilled with her very first deer, on her very first hunt of her life.   Vayda said she wants a Big Buck next time! Good Job Vayda!

Ruby’s Riton Binoculars

The 2018 Pennsylvania Archery season is on and I’ve been hunting every chance I get. This year I’ve been using my Riton 10×40 Binoculars to spot those deer long before they get to my stand.

My ridge-top stand is about 200 yards from the lower field and these 10×40’s let me see what’s going across the area in crisp detail. With your naked eye, it’s hard to see that far through the woods. There are just too many trees, limbs, and leaves in your way.

I’ve seen some really pretty sunrise mornings, with fog rolling in and the leaves starting to change colors. I like looking through these binocs because they make far off objects seem like they’re only a few feet away. I never realized how much you miss seeing, without the aid of 10 Power vision. Plus, they are light weight and compact.

My Riton WJAC-TV Interview

Recently, I’ve had several ROR followers ask me, “Where is your Riton TV interview?” Well, it was a bit difficult to locate from my website so, here it is again and the rest of the story.

When the reporter from WJAC-TV, the local NBC Station, contacted me about doing an interview, I was really thrilled. The news-person, Rachel Prichard, called my Mom and they made a time for us all to meet. When Ms. Prichard pulled into our driveway, with her WJAC-TV car, the neighborhood kids became very curious as to what was going on. I was waiting outside to meet her.

I was nervous about talking to her, but Ms. Prichard was so nice and interested in my story that she put me at ease. She told me about how she wanted to go to College to get into television as a TV meteorologist. She looked at my Mom and Aunt Jenny ‘s magazine covers on our den wall and said it was cool I was following their outdoor path.

Ms. Prichard showed me her camera and gave me a few video production hints and I really appreciated that. I explained about my Riton Pro Staff position and why I like this 3×12 Riton Scope so much. She was very encouraging and told me to keep doing what I enjoy most and someday you’ll find that perfect Outdoor Media job.

When the interview was over, we walked out to her car to say good-bye. Then I thought of a few more things I wanted to say, but, too late. I’ll have to wait for my next TV interview to make those comments.       (See link to WJAC-TV  interview below)

My School Board Presentation about Riton

Last Tuesday was a Big Day for me. I played a soccer game at our Home Field and after that I was scheduled to give a short presentation to our School Board about my Riton Pro Staff Position.

My Principal and Vice Principal both warned me a week ago that the Board was going to invite me to attend. So, I had time to make up a dozen Riton Information packets. Inside were a few of my newspaper clippings, a Riton Scope Brochure, my Resume’ and my ROR Business card. I glued a Riton Logo on the Front of the folder.

I wanted to make a good impression with the Board, but my soccer game ended in a 2 all tie, just as the meeting was about to start.

I didn’t have any time to go home, take a shower and get ready. So, I just rushed over to the Administration Building in my soccer jersey and old jeans to meet my Mom.

My Mom brought the Red Riton Information packets to hand out to the Board members. I was a bit nervous about talking to the group at first. But, my principal, Mr. Foster, was there and he gave me a nice introduction and then turned it over to me to begin my Riton Pro Staff Presentation.

I gave a brief overview of my hunting and fishing experiences and how I made my first video about tying flies. I explained how got started with my ROR website and about my Video application for my Riton Pro Staff Position. They asked me questions on how I did the Riton test video and what kind of hunting I like best.

I also talked about our school’s TSA program and how our team produced several award winning videos. The Board members all said they would look at my Riton Reviews on my ROR website, so I was really happy about that.

My sister, Vayda, and I really like that our school is known as the Conemaugh Township Indians and this statue is at the entrance to our Gym. “Go Tribe!” And, I want to thank the Board for inviting me!

My Buck Story On Parker Website

Archery Deer Season is just around the corner and I’ve been practicing with my Parker Challenger Cross-Bow. I got my first ever buck with my Parker bow back in 2015. Recently my story was published on the Parker website, along with this photo.

Here’s another photo of my first buck, with my Mom and sister, Vayda, right under my tree-stand. The Parker website only used one photo. Take a look at my story; it was an unforgettable event in my Deer Hunting Life.

Ruby and Riton on the Range

I really like my Riton 3×12 Power scope. Finally, I went to the range to shoot the old TC Fire Hawk with the Riton scope. This combination worked just great. The scope is clear and sharp at every power setting , from 3 to 12. I especially like the long eye relief. I’ll be using this rifle to hunt in the early PA doe season from my tree stands. I’m anxious for that Muzzle-loader Deer season to start. To see my Riton scope in action, click on the link below.

Hot Shot Ruby

The Tribune Democrat Newspaper called me for an interview about my Pro Staff position for Riton Optics. I was surprised they used my photo so big. I liked the small photo with my Riton cap better. The y used that photo in a small size on the Front Page. The story and the large photo ran on the back page for the “Spotlight” feature.

My Riton Scope is On Right

I’ve mounted my 3×12 Riton Scope on my old Fire Hawk muzzle loader and this video will show you how I did it. Our reloading bench is the scene for this video. We use this shop area for working on all our other firearms. Plus, we load ammo for my 243, 7mm08, 7mm Rem Mag and my new 44 Magnum Ruger Rifle.

I’m holding the 54 caliber T.C. Fire Hawk and now it’s ready for the shooting range. That will be my next on-location segment. Click on the video below to see my “Official Riton Video”, with my New Riton Background, My Riton T-shirt and Ball Cap. I’ve also picked a new theme music just for my Riton Reviews.

Daily American Newspaper Story

The Somerset Daily American Newspaper called me while I was on my Family Vacation last week on Brigantine Island, N.J. The reporter, Dylan Johnson, interviewed me while I was sitting in our van out on the driveway. We had to go there because my little sister, Vayda and cousins, Edye and Joey were running around the condo yelling and laughing. They don’t know (or care) that I’m on a working vacation.

I was really happy the newspaper used my color photo and added some nice comments to the story from Jerry (Ace) Luciano the Riton P.R. Agent. Our condo was really noisy, especially when the fire alarms were going off and the Police and the Firemen came. But, that’s another story to be posted later. Watch for it!

Joey, Edye, Vayda, Me and my Uncle Mike at our Vacation Condo on Brigantine Island, New Jersey. Fun in the sun & Fishing, too! Joey liked the ocean but runs from the camera.
