I’ve been Spring Turkey Hunting for 3 years now and it is really a nice time to be in the woods. It is not too cold or too hot and we get to see all kinds of birds and small game animals. This is a gobbler that my Pupup killed in 2013 on a school day. So, I wasn’t along on that hunt, but he brought the big bird to my house for a photo shoot. He used a box call, a slate call and three turkey decoys to lure the gobbler into shooting range. The shot gun is a Mossberg 12 gauge, 3-1/2 inch magnum.
This season I’ve been hunting turkey with a 20 gauge H&R single shot shotgun. It has an adjustable stock, like the kind on an AR-15, because the original wood stock was too long for my arms. The new stock also has a hi-tech recoil pad that softens the kick.
This was my first ever Spring Turkey Hunt back in 2012. We made a video of me setting up the decoys and calling, but we never heard a gobbler and didn’t see any hens either.
