Ohio Buck Hunt 2016

Oakwood Outfitters, located in the Hocking Valley of Ohio, was the site of my first-ever Out-of-State Hunting Adventure. The Buck hunt was really special because it’s only for Young Hunters 17 years and younger. I was really excited about getting a Big Buck here!

We stayed at a beautiful log cabin at the top of a steep hill. It was 60 degrees and sunny when we arrived and I jumped into the nice hot tub that was out on the back deck. I watched the sunset from here.

The cabin also had a nice warm fireplace. That was a good thing because a winter storm brought high winds and snow flurries overnight and the temperatures dipped down to 28 degrees by morning. I didn’t get to use the hot tub again, too cold.

Youth hunters must hunt with an adult at all times, so my Grandpa was my Guide and as always my video/photo guy. But, I took some photos too, like our selfie team photo.

I was using my Savage 220 bolt action Slug Rifle. In Ohio center-fire rifles are not permitted for deer hunting. This rifled shotgun is a 20 gauge and can reach out to 125 yards or more. But, I was really hoping to see a buck much closer, like about 50 yards.

Please check out my Ohio Hunt video below. We will also tell you about our visit to Cabela’s store in West Virginia and a little history about the Hocking Valley area.
